17-Year-Old Girl Develops ‘Virus Destroying Mask’
The world is struggling to fight the COVID-19 global crisis. This has brought about the need for people to develop skills and come up with strategies and devices to prevent further damage by a deadly virus, and a Xl class student in Bardhaman's Bardhaman district came up with a game-changing mask.
According to Indian Express, her design has been selected and shortlisted in a national competition as well.
This girl named Digantika Bose is studying at Vidyasagar Smriti Vidyamandir Branch 2 in Memari and her invention is 'Air Providing and Virus Destroying The Mask'. It took her seven days to develop the mask and after a series of tests were submitted, the Ministry of Science and Technology took Bose's permission to take her invention to fight the against disease.
How it all began
The 17-year-old participated in the Challenge COVID-19 Competition organized by the National Innovation Foundation and submitted her design. Once her work was selected, Bose agreed to get them started and help people.
Always passionate about science and technology, this was Bose's time to enlighten and help others by doing what shee does best. She has decided to spend his time developing a solution to the global problem when schools close due to lockdown. She is also the proud owner of a patent.
About the mask.
The mask has two parts. The first part consists of one-way valves and the second part with two reservoirs containers
While inhaling, dust and other harmful substances will be absorbed by the water particles and the lipid proteins of the virus will be destroyed. A one-way valve makes it possible for fresh air to enter the human lungs.
As you exhale, the air exits through one valve and into the container where the virus's lipid protein is broken to destroy it.
Bose said if a COVID-19 patient uses a mask, the droplets they exhale will not contain viruses and not infected.
She said, “The day the lockdown was announced. I have found that there will be no tests. This has been on my mind ever since. I have also done special courses for this. It took seven or eight days. I noticed that everyone was walking around wearing a regular mask. However, it does not prevent the virus, so, I thought to develop something that works. I have received numerous national awards. But this feeling is completely different. I'm overwhelmed."
She added, "This mask will work in the coronavirus pandemic in the country. I feel very good. This recognition from the Union Ministry of Technology has given me more encouraging and inspiring to me. I am very happy for being able to do something for my country."
